General Music - 2020-21
This year is a little different. I've included some videos below to help you navigate your way into the classroom for students. Please check them out :)
5th Grade General Music
Students in 5th grade work on reading music, identifying note names, learning rote songs and canons, and singing in tune. In addition, as part of the music curriculum, every fourth and fifth grade student is required to learn the recorder. Learning a new instrument builds self-esteem for children and develops higher thinking skills that they can apply in school and in everyday life.
This link below can help students identify notes on the treble clef which we work on in 4th grade. When you play this game, make sure to click on "treble only."

7th Grade General Music
-Students in 7th grade continue learn reading music in both treble and bass clefs, how to play keyboard, and also how to efficiently sight read complicated notes and rhythms. They also learn how to describe music using a higher music vocabulary and compare it to their everyday lives. At the end of the trimester, students perform a mini piano recital for other classes in the school as well as for parents who choose to come watch them. The recital helps students to learn how to play in front of others which helps with their self-esteem.
Attached at the bottom is a syllabus that students receive on their first day of class and below that is a note reading game that will help students to identify notes.
